Dalby Dare

What is it?

Dalby Dare is your chance to ride a full loop of the official World Cup course (6.7km) under race conditions before heading out onto the Dalby Dare course for another 14km of some of the best trails and that Dalby Forest has to offer. At the end of that, just like in the Elite world cup races the next day you’ll get to finish under the World Cup arch in the heart of the World Cup village. With the chance to ride everything the pro's do, a good chunk of what they don't and a goody bag (which even the pro’s don’t get). What's not to like?

Am I Up to the Task?

Built to test the best, Dalby Dare is a course built on black grade trails, hard enough to test the endurance of the best in the world, tricky enough to make hardened professionals take the chicken run on some descents. It's been rated as one of the best world cup courses ever by the UK mountain bike press. You don’t need to be as fit as the professionals to get round, but you will need to be skilled enough to cope with the technical difficulties the ride presents. To make life easier on the day we’ve created a number of categories to give you the chance to start your ride with people of similar ability. Roll over the icons above to find out more.

Categories

As you’ve probably gathered already, Dalby Dare is no walk in the park. As far as the course goes you only ever get it as easy, or as tough as the professionals, you’ll need all your riding skills to be in black grade best shape to get around this course.

However, we know that the best technical skills aren’t always accompanied by the biggest engines, so with that in mind we’ve created 3 categories for you to choose from. These decide what time your ride begins and hopefully mean you’ll spend more of your ride with people of similar ability. If you’re fast it should mean less traffic in front. If you’re slow, less angry wannabe’s spoiling your singletrack. So, when you enter, choose one of the following that best represents your riding abilities:

Big Ring - Expected finish time 1 hour - 1 hour 30 mins
You only know one speed and that’s fast! You’re race ready, took off your granny ring as soon as you got your bike and are taking part to compare your lap time against the pro’s.

Middle Ring - Expected finish time 1 hour 30 mins - 2 hours
You’ve taken part in a few enduro’s before, but are more into racing your mates than chasing ranking points. You might wear baggy shorts but you’re still serious about your riding and happy to feel the burn every now and again.

Little Ring - Expected finish time 2 hours - 2 hours 30 mins
You happily ride red and black grade trails and love the technical stuff. When it comes to climbing though you don’t mind sticking it in the granny ring. You’re taking part for bragging rights with your mates and we can expect to see you posing for the camera at every opportunity.

Goody Bag

In 2010 our goody bag was assembled by Purple Mountain, they’re a permanent feature here in the forest and provide spares and sustenance for thousands of mountain bikers in Yorkshire year round. Last years goody bag had socks, mitts, energy bars and all sorts for lucky participants in Dalby Dare and was worth the entry fee alone. This year we’re teaming up again and we’ll be releasing details of the goody bag closer to the event.
